What Counts as Qualified Education Expenses?
Under the Alabama CHOOSE Act, families can use ESA funds for a wide range of qualified education expenses. These include not only traditional costs like private school tuition, but also:
- Tutoring services from approved providers
- Special education services for children with disabilities
- Curriculum materials and digital learning tools
- Fees associated with standardized testing or college entrance exams
- Enrollment costs at accredited institutions of higher education
- Transportation or technology needed to access educational services
The Alabama Department of Education oversees funding to make sure families spend funds on approved uses. Thankfully, BTA is an approved provider. You can be sure that your child’s enrichment will qualify when you choose us!

Understanding the Purpose of the CHOOSE Act
The Alabama Department of Education plays an important role in making sure the CHOOSE Act runs smoothly and stays on track. They’re the ones who maintain the list of approved providers, offer clear guidance on how families can use their funds, and manage the secure system that distributes ESA funds.
Even though the CHOOSE Act is unique to Alabama, it’s part of a bigger trend happening across the United States. More and more states are embracing school choice, and Alabama families are right at the center of this exciting shift toward more educational flexibility.
