Vocabulary – A

In this session, we will cover Vocabulary constructs that will be tested on the ACAP this spring.

    • ACSS 13: Utilize new academic, content-specific, grade-level vocabulary to make connections to previously learned words and relate new words to background knowledge.
    • ACSS 14: Describe word relationships and nuances in word meanings, including relating them to their opposites and distinguishing shades of meaning in similar or related words, including nouns, verbs, and adjectives.

 

What you’ll learn

  • Make connections to a word’s structure using knowledge of phonology, morphology, and orthography of the word to aid learning.
  • Determine the meaning of words using synonyms in context.
  • Determine the meaning of words using antonyms as a clue.
  • Describe the similarities and differences between related words.
  • Use knowledge of homophones to determine the appropriate use of words.
  • Interpret figurative language.
  • Identify relationships and nuances in word meanings to determine real-life connections between words and their use.

Homework

Students will bring home a packet of resources that align with the focuses of the workshop session. Additionally, current BTA Tutoring clients will be able to find supplemental practice online in our software.
